**About the facility**

Barwon health is the major regional health provider for the Barwon South West region. It is Victoria’s largest regional health service with one of the busiest hospitals in the state, University Hospital. We serve over 500,000 people through the efforts of over 8,000 staff and more than 1000 volunteers. We provide care at all stages or life and circumstance through a wide range of services from emergency and acute to mental health, primary care, community services, aged care, and subacute/rehabilitation. Care is provided to the community through over 24 key locations throughout the region.

**About the role**

The newly developed Community Health Bicultural role will contribute to and be part of the community-based, multidisciplinary area health team to support clients and carers to achieve an optimum level of health independence through:

- Working with individuals and communities with whom they share similar cultural experiences and understanding
- Consulting with community and support health service access or health information in relevant languages in culturally appropriate ways
- Use of cultural knowledge or lived experience to negotiate and communicate between communities and Barwon Health programs; acting as a conduit, they facilitate mutual understanding of stakeholder’s interests and needs
- Advocate for communities providing feedback about barriers, challenges and discrimination faced by their communities and advocate for change
