An excellent opportunity currently exists with an Ipswich-based
**_Employer of Choice_** in the Not-for-Profit sector for a
**Social Justice Advocate (Part-time - 4 days per week)** to provide high-quality advice, advocacy and referral services to people with a disability or mental ill health.
The
**Social Justice Advocate** with undertake advocacy for clients by increasing the knowledge and understanding of their rights, obligations and entitlements regarding relevant issues, as well as:
- Advocating on behalf of clients to a range of external agencies, where appropriate
- Providing community education sessions to community and other groups on disability issues and NDIS
- Supporting and representing clients at the relevant Tribunals, where appropriate
- Developing and maintaining appropriate links with the community and participating in broader disability consultative and networking processes
- Developing and maintaining caseloads and providing regular statistical reports to funders
- Maintaining records on the client service database and client files
Applicants for this role should possess the following skills, qualifications and experience:
- Experience in the provision of advocacy or disability services within a community organisation or relevant field
- Hold a current, unrestricted class QLD Driver's Licence
- Hold or be eligible to obtain a Positive Notice for Working with Children and receive a Positive Notice from Disability Services Queensland based on criminal history screening
- Proven ability to effectively communicate with and relate to people from diverse cultural, linguistic and socio-economic backgrounds and people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Human Services and/or related field or a Certificate IV or Diploma in Disability or Community Services (desirable but not essential)
