**ABOUT THE BRANCH**

Legal and Assurance Branch partners with business areas in the Department of Finance to provide high quality legal, risk and assurance services. The Branch currently includes four sections;
- **Public Administrative Law** team are responsible for providing strategic legal advice on statutory interpretation and administrative law matters, and the legislation program for Finance.
- **Public Information Law** supports the Department’s engagement with inquiries and investigations, including law enforcement and compliance activity. This team also support the Department to meet Privacy obligations and process FOI requests.
- **Commercial Law** team are responsible for providing strategic commercial and corporate legal advice across a wide range of activities of the department, including the procurement of legal services through whole of government arrangements, contract negotiation and dispute resolution, and management of some commercial litigation.
- **Assurance and Risk **team are responsible for financial governance, enterprise risk management, internal and external audit liaison, fraud control and insurance liaison. The team also supports the Performance and Risk Committee of Executive Board and the independent Audit Committee.

**OPPORTUNITY**

We are seeking high performing lawyers to join our legal services team at the Department of Finance. As a Principal Legal Officer you will be responsible for delivery of legal services by, and management of, one of our legal teams. This involves:

- Leading and managing the team to support delivery of timely, high quality, strategic and consistent legal advice and services;
- Developing and maintaining effective and collaborative relationships with colleagues (both within the branch and with business areas) and external stakeholders;
- Developing in house legal capability and supporting the development of staff in the legal team;
- Supporting the department to discharge statutory obligations and provide timely and quality advice to the department's senior leadership; and
- Working collaboratively and contributing to the management of the branch.
