You will conduct investigations into significant incidents occurring in custodial correctional centres and in relation to community corrections services as required. Ascertain causes and contributing factors and determine measures for future prevention and recommendations for practice improvement.
The Professional Standards and Governance Command (PSGC) ensures the community has confidence that QCS as a top tier public safety agency is delivering professional corrective services through a competent and confident workforce supported by strong and ethical leadership.
The purpose of PSGC is to build, drive and maintain a mature and corruption resistant culture that promotes disciplined ethical behaviour and professional practice through deterrence, education and system improvements. It reviews, determines compliance, and reports on issues relating to ethical and professional standards and behaviours.
The Critical Incident Review and Inspection Group delivers a comprehensive operational review and oversight function to identify risk, issues and trends relevant to safe correctional environments, humane prisoner and offender management and contemporary correctional practice.
**To be successful in this role, you will have**:

- Demonstrated high level analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to interpret data to draw conclusions, analyse trends and make recommendations for practice improvements.
- Demonstrated high level written communication skills, including the ability to formulate reports, documents and correspondence to articulate messages aligned to the intended author.
- Demonstrated communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills for liaising with management and staff across all levels to gain commitments and negotiate service delivery priorities, deadlines, resources and other relevant issues.
- Ability to work autonomously and determine priorities unless otherwise directed.
- Ability to build and manage ongoing working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including demonstrated cultural sensitivity and capability.
- Sound knowledge and understanding, or ability to rapidly develop knowledge of relevant legislation including the Correctional Services Act 2006, and international standards for correctional services and the humane treatment of prisoners, as well as emerging legislation such as the Human Rights Act 2019.
- Knowledge, understanding and experience in a large and complex government agency, preferably in human services.
- Demonstrated ability to participate in and contribute positively to team culture and initiatives to resolve common issues or barriers to effect business improvement. Promote a culture of integrity and professionalism within the Group and organisation.
