**THE ROLE**
The Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (the department) will provide Bachelor of Laws (LLB), and Juris Doctor (JD) graduates the opportunity to experience a supervised legal traineeship in the department's Legal Services Branch (LSB). This traineeship will be primarily located in one of our regional departmental offices and will give valuable insight into the role of a leading Victorian Public Service (VPS) department and build capabilities suitable for a legal career in the VPS. It will also provide the trainee with the necessary supervised legal training in a workplace to satisfy requirements of the Victorian Legal Admissions Board.
LSB is looking for regionally located trainees (or trainees who are willing to relocate to work from a regional departmental offices) that are motivated, demonstrate initiative, enthusiasm, and good judgment, and have excellent written and oral communications skills. To succeed in this role, you will have strong academic results in a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor and an interest in a career in government.
Priority will be given to applicants who are willing to work from one of the following priority regional offices:
- Shepparton
- Mildura
- Morwell
**ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE**
- Provides routine legal advice and correspondence under the supervision of more senior solicitors.
- Collaborate with departmental colleagues to deliver client focused legal services.
- Instruct in litigation including directions hearings and routine case conferences involving the department in a wide range of courts and tribunals.
