**Who we are**
The Risk, Intelligence and Strategy Branch is responsible for supporting and enhancing strategic decision-making through intelligence analysis, risk modelling and analysis, governance practices and modern biosecurity legislation. This branch is responsible for supporting the Biosecurity and Compliance Group to identify the next horizon of risks, threats and disruptions. It is also developing frameworks to enable strategic thinking to be embedded within line areas.
The Intelligence and Analysis Section (IAS) provides executive decision makers with foresight about threats to biosecurity in support of biosecurity-related strategic decision making. It does this by delivering strategic intelligence advice, including in the form of written assessments and placemats. It also plays a key role in supporting the continued development of the department’s intelligence capability.
**The Jobs**
The successful applicants will perform a leadership role in the IAS which is a section characterised by competing priorities within a busy forward work plan. If successful, you will exercise a considerable degree of independence to lead and manage small teams of analysts to produce client-focussed, useful intelligence products. You will manage projects and drive initiatives to support business improvement and an enhanced departmental intelligence capability. You will actively manage key stakeholder relationships within and outside the department and may manage one or more work teams.
The IAS strategic intelligence effort is currently organised into four teams. At this time, we are seeking experienced intelligence professionals to lead two of these teams. These are **Strategic Intelligence** which is focussed on longer term assessments following on from client requests and **Strategic Monitoring and Warning** which is focussed on faster turnaround warning products. Both roles involve managing a small team of intelligence analysts who produce strategic intelligence assessments in line with intelligence requirements and in support of executive decision making. These positions report to the Director, IAS.
Key duties will include:
- leading the production of client-focussed strategic intelligence assessments that draw upon a range of contemporary intelligence gathering methods
- providing timely and considered input for corporate reporting (including budgets), briefing material and policy and program documents
- driving the identification, development and implementation of section business improvements and enhancements, as well as participating in branch projects and initiatives more broadly
- establishing and maintaining a network of internal and external stakeholders in support of the work of the section, branch, division and department
- championing excellence, accountability and governance with respect to the intelligence activities of the section and the department
- operating as a resilient member of the IAS leadership team in support of the vision set by the Director IAS.

The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.

- Experience negotiating with stakeholders.
- Experience within the Australian National Intelligence Community.
