**ABOUT THE ROLE**

The Head of Strategic Development, Communications and Engagement provides leadership of council’s strategic development, customer contact, marketing, economic development, public realm, communication and engagement services, ensuring council can meet the current and future needs of the community and respond to the changing environments and needs of local government.

The role will directly support the Mayor and Chief Executive Officer by providing media support through advice, speaking notes and media releases. The successful applicant will also assist in carrying out civic and ceremonial functions of council, managing council’s mainstream and social media presence as well as providing advice on consultation strategies for key projects and initiatives.

The role reports to the Chief Executive Officer and coordinates business planning, management strategies, service levels and is pivotal in leading and influencing the effective management of relationships with key stakeholders. Critical to this role is the ability to impact employee engagement and to be instrumental in creating a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

**ABOUT YOU**
- Extensive experience at an executive or senior management level with a demonstrable strategic management and leadership focus, preferably in local government, that delivers an outcome focussed approach, with strong people leadership, financial, and risk management foundations.
- Tertiary and post-graduate qualifications in an appropriate discipline or relevant senior management experience.
- Extensive experience in leading strategic development and communication and engagement services which provides capabilities to navigate changes and challenges of a growing and changing community.
- An exceptional communicator and presenter, with demonstrated ability to understand core messages, audiences, and to write and present an agreed, authoritative and consistent voice for council.
- Both adaptable and resilient, with extensive experience in working through challenges, and able to persist in the face of significant, complex, and novel challenges, using well developed influencing skills to achieve desired outcomes.

**WHAT WE OFFER YOU**

We are offering a 5-year contract with an annual remuneration package circa $200,000, comprising base salary, 12.5% employer superannuation contribution and private use of a council vehicle. The final package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
