Electorate Officer

Gold Coast, Australia UM for Ministerial and Parliamentary Services Full time

The successful applicant will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to establish professional relationships with key stakeholders and media across the electorate of Moncrieff.

**The key duties of the position include, but are not limited to**:

- Daily media monitoring
- Assist with electorate media enquiries
- Organise and create media opportunities and schedule proactive media placements
- Develop and maintain a strategic and targeted communications plan
- Prepare media releases, opinion pieces and community columns, regular newsletters and e-newsletters
- Liaise with local media for funding announcements and electorate events
- Assist with creating content for social media platforms
- Develop and maintain advertising campaigns through traditional and online media, including video content
- Speech writing for parliamentary debates
- Build relationships with local media stakeholders
- Accompany the member to electorate events as required
- Assist shadow portfolio adviser as required
- Travel to Canberra during some Parliamentary sitting weeks
- Other duties as required

**Key selection criteria**:

- Tertiary qualification in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related field, with some relevant experience would be an advantage
- An ability to provide high-level strategic media and communications advice
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to develop concise, targeted messages to reach various audiences
- Knowledge of and experience with social media platforms and engagement strategies
- Highly developed attention to detail and design, ensuring messages and published content is accurate and professional
- Organisation skills and the ability to prioritise tasks to meet tight deadlines
- Strong computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud and knowledge of graphic design would be advantageous
- Experience in videography and photography is desirable
- A thorough understanding or interest in the Australian political landscape, relevant policy issues, and the operation of Commonwealth Parliament is desirable, but not essential.
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Previous electorate office experience highly regarded but not essential
- Preparedness to work overtime and on weekends when required

**Employment Conditions**:
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-2023
- A commencing salary between $69,170 and $74,771 will be negotiated depending on relevant skills and experience
- An optional allowance may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work
- An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.
