**About the Role**

The Research Fellow role focuses on studying short-reach optical communication systems, with a primary emphasis on developing efficient computing architectures to perform fast symbol recovery by effectively handling channel nonlinearity. Additionally, the role involves exploring machine learning-based approaches for communication systems and signal processing.

As a Research Fellow, your responsibilities will involve investigating, analyzing, and developing various strategies to efficiently address the challenges posed by nonlinear optical channels.

The position is funded by an ARC Discovery Project, led by Dr. Jingge Zhu, Prof. Jonathan Manton, and Prof. William Shieh. The Research Fellow will have significant freedom to contribute their own ideas within the broader research agenda while closely collaborating with the Chief Investigators.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Independently plan and carry out research on the nominated research project
- Contribute to teaching, training, scientific mentoring and supervision of students
- Develop effective timelines and milestones based on goals of the research programme
- Perform data and microstructure analysis, and be responsible for qualitative and statistical analysis of research data

**Who We Are Looking For**

To be successful in this role, you should be a highly motivated and skilled researcher with a passion for advancing the field of short-reach optical communication systems, and possess the technical expertise and research acumen to make significant contributions to the project's goals. Additionally, you should be proactive, collaborative, and possess strong programming skills, capable of exploring efficient computing architectures and developing innovative solutions.

You will also have:

- A PhD Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or closely related discipline
- A record of quality research as evidenced by publications in leading journals and at conferences commensurate with opportunity
- Ability to perform independent research and a commitment to interdisciplinary research
- Excellent ability in analysing data, problem solving and maintaining accurate research records
