Role Summary

The Coordinator, Personnel Security Vetting (PSV) is responsible for the development and supervision of staff engaged in personnel security vetting activities, in addition to exercising delegations and adjudication of clearance assessment recommendations to minimize insider threat risks to the AFP and the Commonwealth. This role also has responsibility for representing the AFP at relevant inter-departmental forums.

Reporting to the Commander/Manager Security Command, you will provide leadership and direction in the day to day operations of vetting teams engaged in the assessment and maintenance of Commonwealth security clearances (both negative and positive vet levels) in accordance with the requirements and standards of the Commonwealth Protective Security Policy Framework. In addition, the PSV team manage and deliver a range of organisational suitability assessments to ensure the suitability of non-appointees (including contractors and secondees) engaged by the AFP.

Appointees at the Executive Level work under the strategic direction of the senior executive and are responsible for the leadership and management of a number of teams to deliver outcomes. They require in depth knowledge and understanding of the AFP business and the impact of roles and functions undertaken in relation to the organisation’s reputation to effectively manage operations.

Executive Level employees must also ensure the achievement of outcomes are in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.

Role Description & Responsibilities

**As Coordinator, Personnel Security Vetting you will**:
Lead the AFP’s Personnel Security function, delivering high quality outcomes in accordance with the requirements of the Protective Security Policy Framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and AFP Governance Instruments.
Manage and develop the resources and capacity of teams responsible for providing a skilled and contemporary security vetting capability within the AFP.
Ensure compliance with vetting standards and protection of AFP’s interests, while delivering a service which is responsive to AFP’s operational objectives.
Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement to ensure AFP’s vetting function reflects best practice and is well regarded across partner agencies.
Provide leadership and direction in the effective management of complex and disputed clearance outcomes.
Develop and maintain pro-active and constructive relationships with multiple stakeholders both within the AFP and externally across the wider vetting and intelligence communities.
Represent the AFP though participation in relevant internal and external committees, stakeholder forums and working groups.
Essential Requirements

You must be an Australian Citizen.
Completion of a Certificate IV in Government (Personnel Security Vetting) or equivalent qualification.
Demonstrated capacity to lead and manage a high volume work area, while ensuring outputs are delivered in support of the AFP’s operational objectives.
Demonstrated capacity to assume accountability for resources, monitor and evaluate process effectiveness and performance.
Demonstrated experience in leading people and being a strong contributor to the leadership group.
Demonstrated excellent stakeholder relationships, including the ability to provide insightful, persuasive and trusted advice to a diverse range of senior stakeholder; including across government.
