Melbourne City Centre, Australia Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action Full time

The Principal Policy Analyst leads strategic, economic and eneregy market analysis to inform policy development that contribute to the state's transition to renewable energy and net zero emissions, with a focus on developing large-scale renewable energy generation and energy storage in Victoria. This position plays an important role in leading policy design to ensure the achivement of Victoria's renewable energy and energy storage targets.
The Principal Policy Analyst has strong analytical and problem-solving skills to develop well-considered and fit-for-purpose policies and action plans. The position leads complex policy projects including providing accurate and authoritative advice to senior decision makers. Background in energy market analysis and/or commercial transaction is highly desireable.
The position requires high-level communication skills to explain complex and interconnected issues and synthesise these into policy papers, briefs and reports.
The Principal Policy Analyst demonstrates exceptional inter-personal and stakeholder management skills and liaises with and establishes effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including across the Energy Group, the department, and other government departments.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- An appropriate tertiary qualification/s in public policy, economics, engineering, law, science, or an energy related field.
- Knowledge and experience in energy markets and/or commercial transaction is desirable.

This is a fixed term position available for a period of 36 months. The work location for this position is East Melbourne with hybrid work arrangements available.
