Your experience conducting laboratory experiments will be highly valued in the position of Research Technician for Dust Research within Sustainable Mining Technologies (SMT) which is part of the Mineral Resources Business Unit (BU) at CSIRO.

Safety, health and environment are the key components of the SMT research program. As the Research Technician, your capability of conducting extensive laboratory tests and experimental work for dust research will contribute to the authorisation of existing and new projects to be undertaken within approved working environments.

This interesting position allows you to be part of a broad range of tasks including, monitoring, analysis and prevention of respirable dust, as well as research/project development in suppression of iron ore dust. You will be part of a multidisciplinary Mine Safety and Health Research Team to support their diverse research & development activities in mining and mineral dust.

**Your duties will include**:

- Carrying out laboratory experiments including dust sampling and monitoring, dust materials characterisation and analysis, operating analytical instruments
- Participating in project planning and experimental design
- Analysing and summarising experimental data and results including data collection, graphing, and interpretation
- Developing experimental and safe operating procedures and undertaking operation and maintenance of dust laboratory instrument and facility
- Assisting the management of laboratory HSE and relevant documentations
- Undertaking a wide variety of tasks or tasks with a high degree of specialisation
- Showing initiative to seek new approaches to meet experimental or technological needs when encountering new problems where methods are not defined

**Salary**:AU$89,680 - AU$101,459 per annum plus up to 15.4% superannuation

**To be considered you will need**:

- Undergraduate/postgraduate in Materials/Chemical/Metallurgical Engineering or other related fields with minimum 2 years’ relevant experience in laboratory experiments
- Knowledge in materials chemistry, minerals and physical chemistry
- Strong skills and experience in undertaking laboratory experiments including sample preparation, chemical reactions, and operating analytic instruments for particle/dust characterisation
- Strong skills in experimental data analysis, graphing and reporting
- High standard practice of laboratory safety and HSE management
