THE ROLE

Macquarie University is looking for an Museum Operations Assistant to support the Museum Manager in delivering a variety of services that provide access to the museum’s collections. Duties include preparing objects and resources for use in Macquarie University coursework, assisting with collection management and administrative tasks, and maintaining the museum’s communication channels.

ABOUT YOU

An early-career professional with at least 2 years’ experience working in a museum environment, you will have high-level administration and organisational skills, an understanding of museum processes and procedures, an ability to work collaboratively, and an enthusiasm for museums, history and cultural heritage.

Opened in 2021, the Macquarie University History Museum brings together unique collections of artefacts from five continents, representing more than 5,000 years, of human history, enabling academics, students, researchers and visitors to encounter many aspects of the human condition. The Museum provides leadership and services to:

Essential Criteria- Degree and/or equivalent experience in Museum Studies, History, Archaeology, or a related discipline;- 2+ years’ experience working in a museum environment;- Knowledge of museum practices and systems;- Highly developed administrative and organisational skills.

Desirable Criteria- Experience working with the EMu collection management system;- Experience working in the tertiary sector;- Knowledge of the principles of object-based learning.
