**Purpose of position**
The Associate is part of a small team assisting a Judge in the day-to-day management of Chambers and Court. The role of the Associate is to manage chambers, provide general administrative support to the Judge and to supervise and delegate tasks to the Deputy Associate.
**Key Responsibilities and Duties**
- Day-to-day running of chambers including responding to enquiries.
- Supervise the work of the Deputy Associate.
- Assist the Judge to manage the docket by preparing and managing matters waiting for hearing.
- Ensure the court’s case management system is up-to-date and assist the Judge in the preparation of orders and typing of judgments.
- Provide research assistance to Judge
- Assist with the preparation of matters for both the Court and the Judge, with the Judge’s judgment writing as required including head notes, catch wording, and editing in line with the Court’s judgments publication standards
- Maintain court related relationships with various external stakeholders.
- Contribute to organisational forums working for better working practices.
- Other duties as required.
**Important Functions**

- operate within the Court’s policies and procedural guidelines, and
- support and contribute to the Court’s Service Charter
**Selection Criteria**
- Demonstrated legal research, analysis and drafting skills underpinned by good attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to prepare briefing materials, well-drafted correspondence and case summaries.
- Sound organisational and problem-solving skills including the ability to evaluate a large volume of information quickly, manage priorities to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills including tact, discretion, initiative and the ability to communicate effectively with members of the judiciary, the legal profession, the public and other court staff.
- Initiative to work autonomously and take responsibility for progressing work while also being able to work collaboratively, build and maintain positive professional relationships and deal appropriately with sensitive and confidential information.
- The ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities.
- A high standard of ethical behaviour.
**Other Requirements**
- The ability to travel on circuits as required.
