**Key Relationships**

On a functional basis direction and oversight will be provided by the Head
of Girls/Boys’ Boarding who is responsible for the care of boarders and
the operation of the Girls/Boys’ Boarding House. The Boarding Supervisor
will work closely with the whole Boarding team and develop professional
and supportive relationships with the boarding students. All general staff
report to the Director of Business Operations and are ultimately
responsible to the Principal.

**_Position Objective: _**
The role of Boarding Supervisor is to provide support for Boarding program in supervising boarding
students who are cared for and supervised in a friendly, warm and supportive environment.**_ _**

**_Key Responsibilities_**_: _
- Undertaking supervisory duty within the respective boarding area and in accordance with the

Duty of Care requirements
- Supervision of girls’/boys’ boarding, which may include general oversight of the daily routine,

tutoring of students, supervising students on excursions or other activities
- Requirement to sleep-over in the boarding house 1 -2 nights a week to be on-call for emergencies

and responding to students care overnight on a rostered basis
- Attending and supervising other boarding functions, such as House dinners, other House

occasions and socials.
- Being involved in the general care, guidance and discipline of all boarders both when on duty and

when not on duty, when appropriate.
- Providing a friendly, supportive and positive example and influence for all boarding students.
- Informing the Head of Girls’/Boys’ Boarding about all matters relating to boarding students, of

which they should be aware.
- Working with other boarding staff in developing a House ethos and character which recognises

the worth of each student as an individual and creates a sense of belonging for all members.
- Being supportive of the ethos and standards of the School as a whole
- Undertaking Professional Learning requirements such as ABSA Webinars on a pro-rata basis

**_Key Selection Criteria: Qualifications, Skills and Experience_**:

- : _
- Experience working with young people between the ages of 12-18 (eg Youth Work, Case Work,

Teaching, etc), preferably in a boarding program
- Ability to provide effective educational support for students during study periods
- Ability to respond calmly but proactively under sensitive and sometimes stressful situations
- A clear understanding of the importance and significance of the legal requirements of supervising

students in terms of Duty of Care requirements
- Proficient IT skills and able to use IT systems effectively
- Current Drivers Licence
- Current Provide First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Current accreditation in Responding to risks of harm, abuse and neglect training (or willingness to

obtain)

- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts and hours, with sleepover shifts a requirement of the

position
- Demonstrated understanding of students from a diverse range of cultures and backgrounds
- A mature and sensible attitude
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work and contribute to a team environment
- Ability to relate to adolescents
- Nurturing, warm and friendly disposition
- Approachable and personable nature
- Displays patience, compassion and flexibility

- Report all accidents, incidents and hazards to their supervisors as soon as is practicable.
