**About the department**:
The Endocrinology Department is part of the Medical & Emergency Clinical Service Unit and provides inpatient and outpatient care for patients with endocrinology disorders.

The Endocrinology Department has an important role in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and is closely affiliated with the University of Melbourne, Department of Medicine.

Clinical Endocrinology is the branch of medicine dedicated to the diagnosis treatment, and research into hormones of endocrine glands. Diabetes, osteoporosis and thyroid disease are the commonest illnesses treated. The remaining patients have a wide variety of relatively rare diseases resulting from over function or under function of endocrine glands including the hypothalamus, pituitary, adrenals, gonads and the parathyroid glands. The commonest inpatient problem is type 2 diabetes.

The Department of Endocrinology currently operates weekly clinics (3 diabetes, 1 general endocrinology, 1 lipid, 2 osteoporosis, 1 weight control, 1 men’s and women’s health clinic and a gender clinic fortnightly off site at PANCH YCH).. There is a large inpatient load, which includes all areas of endocrinology. There is an active neurosurgery and cardiac surgery unit as well as contact with patients at the Mercy Maternity Hospital. The Department of Endocrinology is very active in research in all fields of endocrinology including bone, diabetes, androgens and obesity. The Department of Endocrinology offers intense endocrine training in an academic unit with a strong research interest.

**About the role**:

- This will be a Diabetes Inpatient Registrar - CORE position.
- Attending 3 x outpatient clinics per week
- Participate in an on call roster

- Demonstrated commitment to high quality patient care

- Demonstrated ability to communicate at all levels
- Registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) - (note eligible applicants will be assisted through this process).
