Applications are invited from suitably qualified and enthusiastic medical practitioners to join our team as a **Senior Registrar in Chemical Pathology** in the **Biochemistry Department at Austin Health Pathology **for the 2024 Clinical Year (commencing **February 2024**).

**About the department**:
Austin Health Pathology provides pathology services to Austin Health and the co-located Mercy Hospital for Women, and also numerous GPs and Specialists in the community. Austin Pathology is also responsible for a number of regional laboratories in the northwest region of Victoria. The laboratories included are: Echuca, Swan Hill, Shepparton, and Mildura. Austin Pathology also provides oversight to a number of point-of-care sites including: Castlemaine, Seymour, Kyneton, Kerang, Kilmore, Cohuna and Kyabram. The anticipation is that this regional expansion will continue and more regional laboratories will become part of the Austin pathology network.

**About the role**:
The successful applicant will report to the Director of Chemical Pathology, or their delegate and be trained in the following:

- An understanding and ability to perform analytical laboratory techniques
- To assist in validation of laboratory results, evaluation of new tests and reviewing protocols and policies
- To provide clinical liaison: provide advice to clinicians on selection and interpretation of laboratory tests, liaison regarding critical results, preparation of materials for clinical review meetings
- Observation and support in the performance of dynamic endocrine tests, interpretation and validation of the results
- To support the provision of; and provide clinical input to, the point-of-care testing services
- Involvement in quality assurance and quality improvement activities to achieve continuing high standards of pathology practices in an efficient and cost-effective manner
- Involvement in staff education and in development and assessment of research and projects
- Oversight and support of the regional laboratories, providing clinical liaison to the laboratory and the requesting clinicians, review of test repertoire ensuring that it remains appropriate and maintains quality standards
