An opening has recently arisen as our Head of Underwriting Operations, based in either Sydney or Melbourne, reporting to the Head of Product and Underwriting. This is a pivotal role, that will see you lead and manage the governance framework supporting underwriting and product operations throughout Guild Insurance. As a member of the senior leadership team within the Product and Underwriting function, you’ll bring strategic thinking, a flair for innovation, business growth, and the people focus as well as your underwriting and product governance expertise.

**The role**

Leading and working with experienced insurance professionals, you will make collaborative, balanced, and fit-for-purpose decisions in uplifting the governance frameworks for the underwriting and product functions. You will lead programs of work aimed at achieving this uplift. A typical day will be focused on a combination of:
(1) Supporting your experienced team in managing their day-to-day governance tasks and helping remove roadblocks where necessary;
(2) Reviewing the progress of governance and process improvement processes to ensure they are in line with plans and aligned to strategic intent;
(3) Collaborating on the roll-out of various business improvement initiatives to understand what is working and what needs development to ensure learnings are documented and taken forward; and

(4) Reporting and problem solving in relation to governance mechanism results, capacity challenges, and customer / people initiatives tied to our strategic plan.

You will bring experience, and depth to uplift our current operational processes and lead the strategic and implementation process of improvement.

You will shoulder responsibility for the risk and reporting obligations, and you’ll also be sought after for your quality advice and counsel to internal and external stakeholders, regulators, reinsurers, and auditors. Your prior exposure to product pricing, portfolio management, and valuation functions will add a well-rounded lens and experience.

You’re technically astute and bring well-developed underwriting and product governance experience across a variety of short and long-tail insurance lines. You have strategic intent and are well-versed in the pillars that build governance frameworks as well as the ability to drive acceptance, embedment, and change within an organisation. You’re inspired by people and people are inspired by you.
