**Who are we**:
With the enactment of the Water Act 2007 (Cth), the Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) was established as an independent expertise-based statutory agency.

For the first time in the Basin's history, one Basin-wide institution is responsible for planning the Basin's water resources, with all planning decisions made in the interest of the Basin as a whole.

Our most important work is to:

- prepare, implement and review an integrated plan for the sustainable use of the Basin's water resources
- operate the River Murray system and efficiently deliver water to users on behalf of partner governments
- measure, monitor and record the quality and quantity of the Basin's water resources
- supporting, encourage and conduct research and investigations about the Basin's water resources and dependent ecosystems
- advise the Australian Government Minister responsible for water on the accreditation of state water resource plans
- provide water rights information to facilitate water trading across the Basin
- engage and educate the Australian community about the Basin's water resources.

**In this role you will**:

- Support the CFO deliver high-quality financial services to the organisation.
- Provide technical expertise and oversee the delivery of a range of financial services including the preparation of Portfolio Budget Statements, annual budget statements, Central Budget Management System reporting and internal accounting position papers.
- Effectively manage a team of accountants and finance officers to ensure the ongoing accounting compliance of the MDBA. This includes managing the delivery of credit card, travel, bank reconciliations, fixed asset accounting and other financial processing functions.
- Be responsible for coordinating and facilitating team performance, including setting, monitoring, and achieving outcomes and work and work priorities.
- Deliver strategic advice and provide insight on the overall financial position and forecast financial outlook of the MDBA.
- Oversee and provide quality assurance for the preparation briefings and reporting materials for the senior executive, and relevant internal and external stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with the CFO to identify areas of opportunity to develop the accounting practices of the MDBA and facilitate effective change management within your business area.
- Oversee and prepare a range of written material including business cases, Cabinet submissions, Senate Estimate submissions, Ministerial and agency briefs, and corporate documentation.
- Communicate financial updates to the CFO and other internal and external stakeholders as required.
- Be responsible for maintaining awareness of current developments in the field of financial accounting in government, anticipating the impact on the work area, and implementing changes in response to developments.
