**About the Role**:
The headspace Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Youth Peer Practitioner will work as part of the headspace team at headspace Onkaparinga.

The headspace Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Youth Peer Practitioner will utilize their personal experience of social-emotional wellbeing difficulties to provide culturally-safe peer support to young people with wellbeing challenges.

This will involve the worker safely sharing their own recovery story/journey with others, offering hope and practical strategies for social and emotional wellbeing recovery. They will draw from a strengths-based recovery orientated model of care and act as a role model towards recovery for young people. In addition, the Peer Practitioner will work collaboratively with headspace staff.

The headspace Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Youth Peer Practitioner will assess young people’s health and wellbeing needs; collaborate on care plans; and provide non-clinical support to clients, such as referrals, advocacy, and support to develop coping strategies. The headspace Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Youth Peer Practitioner will also encourage help-seeking behaviour in young people through planning and delivering a range of youth and community engagement strategies, including facilitating group programs, community education in schools or other community agencies, and relevant community events.

The headspace Onkaparinga centre will support the Peer Practitioner to undertake accredited training (Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or an equivalent course of study), including meeting course fee costs. The worker will also be supported to participate in workshops and cultural mentoring and Lived Experience supervision sessions.

**Experience Requirements**:

- Demonstrated experience working within a fast-paced environment.
- Experienced social-emotional wellbeing difficulties and has experience of recovery.

**Qualification and Other Requirements**:

- Knowledge and experience in using the Microsoft suite of software and databases.
- You must be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with a lived experience of social and emotional wellbeing concerns and recovery
- Certificate IV in Mental Health / Peer Work or equivalent or willingness to obtain
- Valid Department of Human Services (DHS) Working with Children Check (previously known as ‘Child-Related Employment Screening Clearance’).
