**The Role**

Reporting to the Head of Data Governance, this role sits within MLCL’s Finance Department.

As MLC Life Insurance continues to undergo a transformation in how we consume, use and present data across the organisation, this is an exciting opportunity to be part of a highly visible and value-adding function as we continue to strengthen our data capabilities and build our data platform to its target state.

The Data Governance Manager is responsible for maintaining and improving MLCL’s data policies, data governance framework, processes and standards relating to metadata, reference and master data management. The Data Governance Manager is also responsible for working with other data management capability owners to ensure that frameworks, standards, processes, and procedures exist to appropriately manage data capabilities including data quality, data integration and data warehousing / business intelligence.

Working closely with the Data Quality Manager, organisational data stewards and data users, you will drive the development and maintenance of business metadata (with a focus on Critical Data Elements) such as business definitions, data rules and appropriate use of data, linking those definitions to technical metadata, and managing the resolution of issues related to metadata.

As security continues to remain a top priority in all we do, you will also work closely with MLCL’s Information Security Team for managing the proper use of data, to ensure data is correctly classified, and determine appropriate security and access rights.

The Data Governance Manager is also responsible for oversight of the functional use of MLCL’s data governance tools to record business terms, definitions and key data assets and the cataloguing and curation of MLCL’s technical metadata to understand the location of sensitive data and ensuring completeness of data lineage.

**About you**

An experienced and seasoned Data Governance Manager, you have a strong understanding of what “good” looks like. Your ability to build and maintain strong relationships with different business stakeholders will enable you to influence the way they view data governance.

An excellent communicator, you will have experience in explaining data management / data governance concepts and can break down complex, technical data terms to simple, easy-to-understand and adopt business terms for non-technical stakeholders.

You have prior knowledge in using data governance tools such as Collibra, Alation, Informatica Axon, Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog (EDC) etc.

Ideally you will have some experience working in life insurance or workers compensation.
