- undertake legal, policy and economic research and analysis to inform regulatory reforms to the Victorian energy sector, with a strong focus on improving outcomes for consumers
- support drafting guidelines, standards, reports, consultation papers and commission decisions
- support stakeholder consultation and engagement processes.

The regulatory reform adviser undertakes policy and economic research and analysis to inform regulatory reforms to the Victorian energy sector.
Making effective energy regulation is a crucial aspect to support Victoria's transition to a net-zero emissions. It is more important than ever for Victorian energy regulations to meet the technological and policy changes facing the sector. Reforms are especially important to support the rapidly transforming energy sector, particularly for retailers, distributors and transmission companies. Households and businesses are changing the way they use electricity and gas networks, there is a growing need for new transmission networks in Victoria, and consumer-focussed rules for energy retailing continue to be crucial for building trust in the market.

The regulatory reform adviser proactively manages complex economic and energy policy issues, identifying suitable options and solutions. They lead stakeholder engagement with representatives from energy businesses, customers and customer groups, and government agencies to develop clear and influential advice and solutions. This includes collaborating with other teams in the division to ensure energy codes can be implemented effectively and promote compliance.
The regulatory reform team is currently managing and delivering a range of projects to ensure the Victorian energy regulatory framework is future ready, including reviewing the commission's codes and guidelines.

This role would suit someone who has experience in energy and/or regulation, that is enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced environment, on a wide range of complex policy issues, to deliver positive outcomes for consumers. An appreciation or understanding of the distribution and transmission sector is likely to be useful, as the industry develops.
