**About the Department for Correctional Services**

The Department employs approximately 2,000 staff and has responsibility for nine prisons and fifteen Community Correctional offices across the state. Our vision is for a safer community by protecting the public and reducing re-offending. **Duties**

The AJLO is accountable to the Executive Director, Community Corrections & Specialist Prisons (CC&SP) or delegate and will be required to participate in relevant program governance and oversight committees.

**Special Conditions**
- Section 47 of the Public Sector Act 2009 applies in conjunction with other provisions of the act and other applicable industrial entitlements and legislative requirements.
- The incumbent is required to satisfactorily complete a National Criminal History Check.
- Provision of evidence in meeting Essential Qualification and Experience.
- The appointee works within a secure environment.
- A current South Australian Driver’s Licence is essential.
- A flexible approach to working hours is required, some out of hours work may be required.
- Some interstate and intrastate travel will be required which may necessitate overnight absences.
- Section 77Q, Section 77R and Section 77S of the Correctional Services Act, 1982. (For positions that involve working at a correctional institution only)

**Requirements**:
Essential:

- Be of Aboriginal descent in accordance with Section 56 (2) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (SA).
- Experience working with and knowledge of Aboriginal culture and customs.
- Understanding of the systemic disadvantage and complex social factors which impact overrepresentation of Aboriginal people in the prison system.
- Understanding of the criminal justice system and correctional services, particularly bail related processes.

Desirable:

- Be an admitted practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia or currently eligible for admission to practice in South Australia.
- Be appointed to LSC’s General Panel of Practitioners, or eligible for appointment.
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications in legal, social sciences, criminology, human services, etc.
