**Role**:
The assistant principal reports directly to the principal.

Assistant principals have a primary responsibility for the management of significant areas or functions within the school to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program. In exercising the responsibility, assistant principals will have the authority to make all significant decisions relating to the program, budget and staff relating to their area of designated responsibility within the framework of the school's strategic plan, policies and budget. Assistant principals will contribute to the overall management of the school through involvement in policy formulation and decision making.

The management of significant school program or functional areas in schools involve assistant principals in the analysis of the needs of students and the translation of state educational policy and frameworks into appropriate education programs to meet the needs of all students.

Typically assistant principals will be responsible for the effective use of the teaching staff and program budget of a defined area of the school's operation and for the oversight and leadership of the educational programs provided utilising these resources.

**Responsibilities**:
The Instructional Coaching Assistant Principal will be directly responsible for the strategic implementation of the Narre Warren South P-12 Instructional Coaching model, with a specific focus on cycles of coaching, utilising the GROWTH Coaching Model (Goals, Reality, Options, Will, Tactics, Habits) to goal set and review with their colleagues and will be highly proficient at demonstrating the eight key coaching skills of:

- Building trust
- Being present
- Listening actively
- Clarifying
- Empathising
- Being succinct
- Asking the best questions
- Giving feedback
- Coaching is a confidential self-development program which involves goal setting, action planning, self-reflection, feedback and support which allows for targeted enhanced teaching and leadership to improve student outcomes. Coaching assists teacher-growth in meeting their own personalised professional learning goals within the context of Narre Warren South P-12 College strategic direction. Professional learning goals may include incorporating the Teaching and Learning Model, formative feedback, high-impact teaching strategies and student voice and agency into the curriculum and classroom. It is vital that the Instructional Coaching Assistant Principal ensures all information about the coaching process and the coach’s written notes remain confidential. All instructional coaches at Narre Warren South P-12 College work within the Ethical Code of the International Coach Federation (EMCC)._

In recognition of the importance of leadership and management combined with exemplary teaching practice for improved student learning outcomes, the key roles and responsibilities of the Instructional Coaching Assistant Principal may include but are not limited to:

- Lead and manage the College’s Instructional Coaching Program across the College, including the team of Instructional Coaches. This includes supporting selected colleagues to prepare their submission for Moving to Full Registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT)
