**About the Business Unit**:
HM Prison Barwon is a maximum-security prison located 6km north-west of Lara, 20km from the centre of Geelong and about 70km from Melbourne and is part of the Barwon South-west Regional structure. It is Victoria's major maximum-security prison for sentenced male prisoners. The prison officially opened in January 1990 and currently houses up to 416 men in custody, including high security, long term management, protection (including specialist protection), general mainstream (maximum security) and medium security prisoners.

**About the Role**:
Prison Industry Officers are responsible for the management and delivery of specific functions within a prisoner industry or service industry under the guidance of a Prison Industry Supervisor. The role requires leadership, maturity, sound judgement, confidence in decision making, with developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate prisoners, along with highly developed communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Industry Officers focus on contributing to post release employment to create new opportunities for people in prison to positively engage with their community - and they develop pathways for people in prison that improve their chances of gettign a job post-release.

**Some of your duties will include**:

- Providing supervision and training to prisoners who are employed in the prisons commercial and service industries
- Effectively managing all work areas to ensure the safety and security of prisoners, staff and visitors. This includes appropriate levels of surveillance and interaction within the facility, and monitoring staff and prisoners for compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety, and security procedures
- Actively identifying, referring, and supporting prisoners' participation in integrated education into prisoner employment.

The prison industry officer position is rostered Monday to Sunday - 80 hours over a 9 day fortnight.

**About You**:

- A commitment to working with staff, prisoners, and other service providers in the delivery of an integrated, whole of Justice approach to reducing re-offending
- An up-to-date knowledge of modern industry techniques and the maintenance of industry equipment
- An understanding of processes and procedures in accordance with the Prison Industries Managers manual.

**Qualifications**:

- Qualification or experience relevant to Barwon prison industries/service are adesirable
- Experience in kitchen environment desirable
- Applicants must have successfully completed the Corrections Victoria Prison Officer pre-service training course.
