The Technology and Digital Innovation (TDI) branch empowers the City of Melbourne (CoM) and our community through our digital capabilities, technology platforms and access to quality data. Our vision is to be an innovative, digital change leader across our global community of cities and to empower everyone to create and enjoy a liveable and intuitive city in the digital age. The Cyber Security team is rapidly expanding to ensure CoM deliver secure, well governed, and fit for purpose technology solutions that enable our business. CoM are committed to uplifting our Cyber Security capability and maturity and the team will work across TDI and the broader business.
The Lead of the Cybersecurity team is accountable for managing a team of security professionals in the protection of CoM’s technology landscape across all domains and environments. Comprehensive and robust Cybersecurity is crucial to our business and this role will ensure CoM deliver secure, well governed, and fit for purpose technology solutions that enable our business.
While accountable for managing security operations and response, the Cybersecurity Lead will also have key input into developing and implementing a comprehensive Cybersecurity strategy and uplift program, ensuring that security practice is embedded. Working closely with architecture, the incumbent will be pivotal in defining our security model and the establishment of our security domains.
Leading a small team of highly skilled specialists, the incumbent will need extensive experience across all aspects of Cybersecurity as well as the ability to lead, guide and mentor the team.

All CoM People Leaders will demonstrate:
- Leadership capability including leading by example and consistently working towards a constructive culture.
- Demonstrated experience in leading a team to achieve high performance outcomes with coaching skills to develop team capabilities, team cohesion and the ability to effectively manage conflict and under performance.
In addition, the Lead - Cybersecurity will require:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology and/or industry qualifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH Certifications.
- Experience with the selection and deployment of technical controls to meet specific security requirements.
- Experience in the development and implementation of policy, process and standards to ensure that security configurations are maintained.
- Specialist knowledge of information security principles, including risk assessment and management, threat and vulnerability management, incident response, and identity and access management.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills including the capacity to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and the ability to build and manage relationships critical to the delivery of CoM’s services.
