**About the role**
As the sole public pathology provider in South Australia (SA) and the SA Public Health reference laboratory, SA Pathology delivers quality pathology to medical practitioners, public and private hospitals, through a linked system of laboratories across the state. Within SA Pathology, the Microbiology Infectious Diseases (MID) Directorate provides laboratory and clinical services in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases as well as teaching and undertaking research. The Directorate is well equipped with a highly-skilled workforce covering all sub-disciplines within the field of clinical microbiology, including bacteriology, serology, mycology, mycobacteria and molecular diagnostics. SA Pathology houses national reference laboratories for mycology, mycobacteriology and Salmonella typing, providing a unique opportunity for applicants to gain further experience in these specialty areas. We also have a large pathogen genomics service including bacterial, viral and fungal whole genome sequencing and metagenomics. We can offer supervision and training for RCPA fellows seeking to undertake extension of scope of practice in molecular genetics in microbiology.
The MID Consultant's role is to support the clinical microbiology (CM) service provided to SA patients, and to contribute to test development and strategies for improving the service. The Consultant will provide advice on appropriate testing and interpretation of results, communicate significant results to requestors, provide advice on management and contribute to the provision of inpatient and outpatient services in Infectious Diseases (ID). A full description of the duties is available in the attached document.
This advertisement is for an 0.8 FTE temporary 6 month position from 22 April 2024- 24 November 2024 to cover maternity leave.
