**THE POSITION**:
The position leads, manages and supports the Economic Development Team and the Major Events Team to enhance the reputation of the City of Fairfield as a dynamic and vibrant community that celebrates place, culture, and diversity.

The Manager Economic Development & Major Events will support and grow the economic vitality, sustainability and performance of the City’s business centres sectors and industrial estates through monitoring, compiling, and communicating key economic data to guide Council’s ongoing delivery of the City’s Economic Development Strategy and priority programs and projects.

The Manager Economic Development & Major Events will support and enhance the delivery of the Major Events Program and is responsible for monitoring and guiding event planning, inclusive of compliance obligations, while tailoring the program to reflect significant cultural events and community celebrations, according to budgets some of which have a significant sponsorship contribution.

The Manager Economic Development & Major Events leads the development of policies, plans, and key business and community partnerships to support the aims and objectives of the Fairfield City Plan and the Fairfield Local Strategic Planning Statement.

**ESSENTIAL**:

- Tertiary qualifications in Economics and/or Major Events or equivalent, preferably with proven experience working in a Local Government environment.
- New South Wales Driver’s License Class 1C (Motor Car).
- Demonstrated superior skills, experience and capacity in analysis and interpretation of relevant State and Federal Government policies.
- Demonstrated superior skills, experience, and capacity to manage and complete a range of projects on time and on budget.
- Demonstrated resource management skills and experience, including financial and human resources management.
- Demonstrated skills, experience and capacity in research and analysis, evaluating information from a variety of sources, creative thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in strategic thinking and anticipation of potential threats or opportunities, policy development, planning, process improvement and quality control with a strong focus on strategic outcomes.
- Highly developed understanding of, or demonstrated experience in collaborating with, a Place Management and Place Making model particularly regarding place-based planning, place activation, place marketing/promotion and retail/commercial/industrial place collaboration.
- Highly developed skills and experience in proactively identifying and integrating economic development objectives into the varied strategic and operational work across Council and providing an economic development advisory role to Council staff.
- Highly developed communication skills, presentation and public speaking skills, communicating with influence, and in “translating” complex economic and planning concepts into accessible, everyday language.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills in leadership, advocacy, change management, cross cultural consultation, complex negotiation, and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrated success in generating income by securing grants and sponsorships.
- Demonstrated high level of political acumen.
- Ability to advocate at a senior level for the economic needs of Fairfield City.

- Facilitation and training

**SALARY & EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS**:

- Permanent position, 35 hours per week
- This position is a Grade 10, salary range is $129,448 p.a. with progression to $142,888 p.a. on demonstrated competencies, with performance progression to $151,633 p.a.
