**The Role**
Would you like to be a part of a family-run business that gives you copious amounts of variety within your job? Join our clients to maintain a successful operation, specialising in merino sheep for both wool and meat characteristics alongside a self-replacing beef enterprise. Furthermore, complement the livestock operation by growing irrigated crops for grazing benefits.

The property has a central laneway which makes commuting and stock movements easy. A crutching shed and undercover yards are located in a central location to save unnecessary stock movements. Our clients own their own tractors, trucks, digger, spray unit, discs, and feeding equipment. Contractors are brought in for all drilling, fertilising, spreading, and harvesting operations. Plans are underway for new irrigation schemes, additional pivots, and infrastructure extensions to better the property.

The Winton Saxon Merino Stud is the oldest registered stud in Australia TAS Flock No 1 being established in 1835. The sheep enterprise holds a 12,000-head Saxon flock including 500 stud ewes and 2,000 poll merinos including 200 stud poll ewes. The Saxon rams are sold privately and an annual on-property sale is held to sell the top one-and-a-half-year-old poll rams.

The cattle enterprise runs 320 Hereford breeding cows from good pedigree and up until 20 years ago was a registered stud. Since then, they have transitioned from a horn Hereford to a poll Hereford for animal welfare and staff safety purposes. Angus bulls cover the cows to get a great ‘black blady’ hybrid cross. 50 calves are retained for breeders each year with the rest sold at the local calf sale. In 2020, Winton started crossing Wagyu bulls over their heifers to help with first calvers, and as a result, the offspring has been held onto to grow out for the F1 market.

Winton currently has 600HA under permanent irrigation, scope for a further 400HA on-farm. Perennial grass seed crops under irrigation have been grown for the last 10 years with the idea of grazing before and after harvest. Irrigated Canola, Barley, and Lucern are also grown for seed and grazing purposes.

Winton Estate uses farm apps for communication in relation to jobs planned for the following day and priority tasks. It is essential that all team members are excellent at communicating with these farm apps. Farm apps are also used for all livestock records and cropping activities for historical record-keeping and auditing purposes. It is essential that these records are kept up to date when a team member completes a task such as drenching sheep, moving a mob, or ploughing a paddock, etc. It is also a requirement that all new employees complete the online Ag Card course and provide a certificate.
