An exciting opportunity exists to join the **Child & Family Team** as an **Aboriginal Health Worker** at **Port Kembla Hospital**

**What you'll be doing**
- The Aboriginal Health Worker (AHW) will form part of a collaborative, professional team providing parenting support and care to Aboriginal families.
- The AHW will facilitate, with other members of the team, community development initiatives which promote healthy lifestyle choices.
- The AHW will assist in improving the health of Aboriginal families through the provision of high quality, culturally sensitive care, based on primary health care principles, provided in partnership with Aboriginal people/ communities.
- The position will liaise between the clinical stream, major government and non-government stake holders.
- All staff are expected to act as an appropriate and effective role model and promote culture and supporting practices that reflect the NSW Health CORE values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment through demonstrated behaviours and interactions with patients, clients and employees.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (3 doses for Category A roles, 2 doses for Category B roles) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Please provide proof of vaccination if available.

Successful applicants to the role must provide certified documentation of vaccination history and pathology as part of their recruitment documentation. The applicant must be certified as compliant with Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases before employment can commence.

**Selection Criteria**
- Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Woman as authorised under Section 14(d) and 31 of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and with demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal culture.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and link women to Aboriginal specific services, as well as mainstream services.
- Demonstrated ability to advocate for Aboriginal Women and Families.
- Demonstrated ability to lead community development activities and engage Aboriginal women through women's reference groups or other consultative forums. This is aided by completion or willingness to undertake Certificate III/IV in Primary Health Care or equivalent.
- Able to provide parenting education in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability in data collection processes and computer literacy.
- Demonstrated understanding of issues relating to privacy and confidentiality.
- NSW Class C Drivers Licence.
