**Job Description**:
The Australian Financial Review is looking for a writer to join the markets team and expand its coverage of equities, bonds, currencies and commodities.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

- Contribute to the AFR Markets Live blog every trading day
- Generate original ideas and pitches that expand the newsroom's coverage of the economy and business
- Develop a deep understanding of financial markets, with a particular focus on equities, bonds, currencies, and commodities
- Conduct research and writing long-form profiles and features
- Cultivate and maintain contacts within the industry
- Collaborate with other journalists and editors on coverage plans and projects
- Meet strict daily deadlines for writing and producing stories
- Accept commissions outside of the markets section as needed

**Qualifications**:
**Essential**
- Journalism or finance degree
- Proven experience as a finance journalist
- Firm grasp of financial markets and the themes that intrigue investors
- Good ideas generation
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Ability to meet strict production deadlines

**Desirable**
- Wide network of financial markets contacts
