THE ROLE- Salary Package: From $70,536 to $76,022 p.a. (HEW Level 4) plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading.- Appointment Type: Full time, 1-year, fixed-term- Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde)

The Role

Macquarie University is seeking a Research Assistant to join a team working on a clinical trial which has the aim of slowing or preventing cognitive decline and dementia conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, in a population of people considered at high risk of cognitive decline.

Under supervision from the principal researcher, the key accountabilities of the role will be to:
- Assist with blood collection from study participants, and aseptic blood processing for storage.- Assist with neuropsychological testing and survey completion by trial participants.- Assist with neuropsychological test scoring, and data entry from questionnaires into online case report forms.- Prepare paperwork, study materials and consumables as required for participant clinic visits.- Assist in recruitment, initial screening and physical assessments of potential trial participants.- Update and maintain databases for project samples and data- Maintain confidentiality and show respect, understanding and patience towards study participants (aged 60-79) at all times- Perform other study-related duties including assisting participants at clinic visits, and cleaning clinic rooms according to Covid-19 safety regulations.- Comply with University research and ethics protocols and legislative requirements related to data collection and storage.

About You

You will be an enthusiastic, adaptable and competent individual who will work under the supervision of the principal researcher and be able to show initiative and anticipate requirements, ensuring that deadlines and objectives are met. You will have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and pay attention to detail. Previous clinical trial experience not essential, but would be an advantage.

- Essential_- Currently completing or recent graduate of an undergraduate degree or equivalent in medical science, nursing, or related discipline._- Proven Competence with Word, Excel, Outlook and willingness to learn new programs_- Demonstrated experience working in a research laboratory, preferably some PC2/aseptic technique laboratory experience, such as blood processing and DNA/RNA isolation._- Proven ability to perform accurate data entry_- Demonstrated advanced English oral and written communication skills_- Knowledge of ICH-GCP guidelines, or willing to complete training_- Demonstrated experience with venepuncture techniques, or willing to complete training_- Previous experience with REDCap an advantage, but not essential_- Ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with team members._
- This position requires you to comply with occupational screening, assessment and vaccinations in line with Macquarie University health requirements and requires a criminal record check_
