An exciting and rare opportunity exists to join the Cardiology Department at Wollongong Hospital as an unaccredited trainee.

**Where you'll be working**
Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

Wollongong is located an hour’s drive south of Sydney on a narrow coastal strip bordered by the Royal National Park to the north, Lake Illawarra to the south, the Tasman Sea to the east and the Illawarra Escarpment to the west. **What you'll be doing**

Wollongong Hospital is the tertiary referral centre for high-risk cardiology patients from throughout the district and the range of conditions managed span the entire spectrum of cardiac disease. The procedures performed include stress testing, nuclear stress testing, transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiology, cardiac CT, holter monitoring, cardioversions, coronary angiography and stenting, and insertion of temporary and permanent pacemakers. It has 2 cath labs, a 6 bed CCU and a step-down ward. It also has heart failure and cardiac rehabilitation as well as outpatient clinics.

The Cardiology Trainee will have successfully completed FRACP Part 1 and be enrolled with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. The position is a one year appointment and training is provided in essential clinical and procedural aspects of Cardiology as required by the Cardiology curriculum.
This position is not accredited as Core training in Cardiology by the Specialty Training Committee (STC) of the RACP.

**Selection Criteria**
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- a) Completion of FRACP Part 1, or equivalent, or b) Registered to sit the 2021 FRACP Part 1 or have sat that exam and are awaiting results.
- Excellent theoretical knowledge and clinical judgement
- Demonstrates ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical team - diligence, punctuality, organization, record keeping, time management, problem solving skills, team work
- Demonstrates excellent communication (verbal and written) with patients, their families, medical and non-medical colleagues
- Demonstrates ability to provide empathetic and expert clinical care
- Demonstrates commitment to ongoing education, research and teaching in Cardiology
- Demonstrates commitment to continuous quality improvement
