ISLHD - Visiting Medical Officer - Paediatrician - Wollongong Hospital - 400 hours p/annum

The Paediatrician will provide expert and high quality medical assessment and management of patients within the Paediatric Service. The Paediatrician is responsible for the provision of specialist paediatric services to emergency patients, inpatients and outpatients at Wollongong Hospital. The service encompasses the provision of care to the paediatric and neonatal patients in the emergency department, post-natal ward, neonatal unit, children's ward and Paediatric Assessment Unit of Wollongong Hospital.

The Paediatrician will provide advice and support to Shellharbour Emergency Department and Bulli Acute Care Centre regarding paediatric and neonatal patients presenting to these services.

The Paediatrician will proactively:

- Support the development of paediatric neonatal services
- Support and facilitate a culture of learning and best practice
- Support and develop paediatric research and quality improvement within the department

**Advanced Trainees that are expected to receive FRACP within 6 months may be considered for this role.**

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) has responsibility for health services in the Illawarra Shoalhaven region - a catchment area extending along the coastline from Helensburgh in the north to North Durras in the south with over 400,000 residents. This catchment covers four Local Government Areas (LGAs): Wollongong, Kiama, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven. ISLHD operates seven hospital sites in Coledale, Bulli, Wollongong, Shellharbour, Berry, Shoalhaven and Milton Ulladulla, and community health services operating from approximately 58 locations across the region. ISLHD is one of the region’s largest employers with a workforce of more than 8,500 staff.

Wollongong Hospital is the largest of Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District’s eight hospitals, treating more than 48,000 patients annually. It is the region’s tertiary referral hospital servicing a population of more than 400,000 people. The Wollongong Hospital is a 500+ bed centre which provides both general and specialty medical and surgical services including adult intensive care and coronary care units. There are 24 beds in the Children’s Ward and 12 beds in the Neonatal Unit.

An academic suite at Wollongong Hospital supports both the Graduate School of Medicine and School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Wollongong. As such there are teaching and research opportunities through the UOW Graduate School of Medicine.

**Selection Criteria**:

- Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians - Paediatric and Child Health Division and/or equivalent specialist recognition.
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
- Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
