**About the opportunity**
We invite multiple new Postdoctoral / Research Fellows to join a growing set of projects on artificial intelligence, machine learning and algorithms. The Research Fellow appointments are two years fixed term; a three-year appointment can be possible via certain funding sources. The research projects connect with the research strengths in the school on of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and vision, natural language understanding, and robotics. The intended projects also collaborate with other requisite disciplines to integrate human and social values in AI systems via the HMI initiative, touching on aspects of cognition, sociology, ethics, law and regulations.
- Computational and mathematical analysis of online economies. One stream of this work focuses on connecting the macroscopic and microsopic interactions on social media and online attention. Another stream aims to analyse a broader set of economies, for example, ride-sharing and delivery, prediction markets, and renewable energy. The intended research will have a mix of theoretical and empirical components, which can involve mathematical analysis, algorithm design, curating data, performing simulations, and having dialogues with platforms and regulatory bodies about feasible recourse. Applicants with in-depth knowledge in at least one of the following areas are encouraged to apply: machine learning algorithms, recommender systems, computational economics, game theory, optimisation, dynamical systems. The research fellow is expected to work with a team led by Prof Lexing Xie and Dr Yun Kuen Cheung. This position will be supported by Lexing Xie’s ARC Future Fellowship and other external grants.

The intended research will have a mix of theoretical and empirical components. We invite researchers with diverse skillset and research methodologies to apply.

You will have the opportunity to collaborate with the talented PhD, master and undergraduate students in the School of Computing. Appointees will also have opportunities to gain teaching experience, in a way that is aligned with their career development and project settings.
