Are you up for the challenge?About the team – The Machine Learning and Technology team requires strong technical capabilities to develop cutting edge cloud-based AI technology to support high performance sport, and to provide athletes, coaches and support personnel with customisable, decision support required to deliver medals at major international events.

The innovation cycle for computer and data science is extremely short, and this area will operate at leading edge of technology and innovation to generate competitive advantage for Australian sport.

About the role – The Machine Learning Software Engineer will support Machine Learning and Technology Lead to drive key research projects including machine learning, video analysis and data collection.

The role will require leadership in software development and will work collaboratively with key AIS and external specialists and HP staff to develop, build and implement systems to enhance advanced sports data collection systems and use this information to enhance outcomes across the High-Performance Sport system.


The primary tasks include:

Lead collaboration with coaches, sports scientists and engineers to design, prioritise, develop and implement innovative computer vision and Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions to provide a competitive advantage in high performance sport.

Support, maintain and drive future development of the "Pipelines" video machine learning system and related cloud computing infrastructure.
Understand the critical demands of athletes and coaches in the training and competition.
environments, and to identify gaps and opportunities to improve performance through the use AI tools and solutions.
Write clear, maintainable and robust code to support solution development.
Maintain and develop cloud-based computing systems.
Assist in the development and implementation of policies, guidelines and other resources that deliver business outcomes for the ASC.

Actively promote and role model the ASC values of Excellence, Integrity, Respect and Teamwork, and contribute to positive organisational change, effective communication, and continuous improvement at the ASC.

Work collaboratively as part of a high performing team/organisation, establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with key internal and/or external stakeholders to deliver high quality business outcomes.

Assist in the delivery of quality advice and reporting on relevant issues to senior management.

About you – The successful candidate will be inspired to lead the AI capability of the Australian high-performance sports system in the journey to the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics in Brisbane.


The successful candidate will have:
Post graduate qualifications and/or significant demonstrated experience in Deep Learning, Computer Vision, or Artificial Intelligence; or equivalent experience.
Expertise in managing cloud-based infrastructure including GCP.

Expertise in computer vision, deep learning, deep neural networks, convolutional neural networks, random forests, classifiers, feature representations, AI / Artificial Intelligence and/or related techniques.

Demonstrated experience with Py Torch (Strong skills in Python and React.

Demonstrated record of providing leadership and management to achieve high personal and team performance and meet organisational and business objectives.

Demonstrated capacity to provide timely, compelling and concise advice to inform executive members and senior management to support decision making.

Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
