The National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) is the custodian of Australia’s analogue and digital national audiovisual collection which contains over four million items. Our mandate is to collect, preserve and share the remarkable story of the Australian audiovisual experience through the creativity and history represented in film, television, radio, recorded sound, online media, video games, podcasts and associated contextual documentation and ephemera.

Our primary focus is on Australian production and Australian related production, but we also address key international influences on our culture. This position will, among other tasks, focus on growing the National Collection through maintaining and developing key client relationships with respect to Australia’s audio visual industries. Working within the Industry Relations team of the Collection Acquisition Programs division, there will be a focus on acquiring contemporary digital media content within the broadcast and sound industry sectors.

The NFSA is committed to developing its collection through the representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as well as those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

This role will be based in the NFSA’s Acton headquarters.

**Job Details**
Under general direction undertake the following duties:

- Develop and deliver existing and emerging collection acquisition programs in accordance with curatorial and accessioning policies and practices including developing targeted acquisition strategies, negotiating lodgement of material, and end to end processing of incoming acquisitions.
- Working independently and with other members of the team, develop, build and maintain relationships with key industry stakeholders within the broadcast and sound industry sectors, identified to assist in the growth of the NFSA’s contemporary digital collection.
- Proactively contribute to the interpretation and presentation of the National Collection, through identified outreach programs and projects.
- Participate in the development and enhancement of key systems and workflows with an emphasis on digital transformation through active contribution to priority development projects.
- Undertake complex research and analysis of collection material, to identify strengths and weaknesses in the existing collection, assisting in developing targeted acquisition, outreach and preservation strategies.

**Selection Criteria**
- Demonstrated skills and experience working in and knowledge of Australia’s audiovisual industries, with a strong understanding of contemporary digital technologies and formats.
- Strong operational and organisational skills including the ability to work with mínimal supervision, using initiative and managing multiple tasks within agreed acquisition priorities as a member of a high performing team.
- High level communication and interpersonal skills building and initiating relationships with new and existing stakeholders within the sound and broadcast industries.
- Experience undertaking complex research and analysis in the curatorial context of acquiring, processing, interpreting and presenting collection material.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, update and implement policies, guidelines and procedures in accordance with Curatorial requirements.

**Desired Skills and Experience**:
**Qualifications and/or equivalent experience required**:

- Relevant experience working within a collecting institution and/or audio-visual industry is desirable. Library, Archive or Museum qualifications and/or other relevant tertiary studies are desirable.

**Eligibility**

To be eligible for this position you must:

- Be an Australian Citizen; and
- Satisfactorily complete an Australian Federal Police National Police Check.

Other eligibility that may be included in a job would also include the following:

- Obtain and maintain an Australian Government Baseline Security Clearance; and
- Obtain and maintain a Working with Vulnerable People registration.
