**About the Role**
An exciting opportunity exists to lead the Retail & Business Development team at South Melbourne Market for a 12-month period while the incumbent takes long service leave. The South Melbourne Market is a highly valued asset in the City of Port Phillip. This position reports to the Market’s Executive Director and is responsible for delivering the Market’s Retail Strategy and all aspects of licensing, revenue generation and commercial partnerships and collaborations.
The Head of Business & Retail Development is responsible for issuing Licences ensuring there is a transparent process with strong governance and appropriate policies in place. A key component of the role is to ensure the Market builds towards financial sustainability through exploring new financial models and revenue opportunities.
**Duties**:

- Lead, mentor and develop the Retail & Business Development team
- Develop, implement and continuously improve the Market’s Retail strategy
- Manage and implement all aspects of issuing licensing (lease) agreements with existing and potential retailers
- Manage the curation of the Market’s retail experience
- Responsible for revenue generation and budget management to ensure financial sustainability
- Prepare and present corporate reports and business plans

**Skills and Experience**
- Demonstrated extensive experience in retail management, retail licence (lease) negotiations, retail mix curation and retail best practice.
- Superior understanding of retail/market trends, directions and opportunities in food, general merchandise and services.
- Ability to develop and manage a budget
- Proven ability to lead, mentor and manage a team effectively
- Highly developed interpersonal and written communications skills
- Experience managing OHS, risk and compliance
- Degree in business, leasing, management or similar discipline
