**North Shore Private Hospital has an exciting permanent part-time opportunity for a dynamic and hardworking Trainee Coder to join our coding team.**

**The Opportunity**

As a trainee coder, you will be fully supported by a highly knowledgeable and supportive Coding team, alongside both the Coding Manager and Health Information Manager of the department.

As the Trainee Clinical Coder, you will:

- Undertake the specified clinical coding training program demonstrating the ability to appropriately assign accurate and timely coding of diagnosis and procedure codes using current standards and practice.
- Be aware of and abide by the relevant code of ethics including principals in the Australian Coding Standards and NSW CCLG advice.
- Attend and actively participate in continuing education programs relevant to clinical coding and the trainee program
- With support, understand gaps in clinical documentation and understand the escalation processes in place to address these gaps
- With support, assist with data quality activities as required by the Coding Manager and Health Information Manager
- Assist with clerical activities in the department as required

**Your Essential Skills and Experience**
- Recent completion of Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA) Clinical Coding Course; Associate Diploma or Bachelor of Applied Science, Medical Record Administration or Health Information Management; or similar relevant tertiary qualification.
- Evidence of ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS 12th Edition Online Education successful completion
- Eligible for HIMAA membership.
- Demonstrated interest in clinical coding, highly developed ability to self-manage and a positive “can do” attitude.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment and independently as required.
- Commitment to professional development through quality activities, constructive feedback and mentoring.
- Sound computer literacy and skills within the Microsoft Office Suite.

**Desirable**
- Experience with Meditech
- Previous private hospital experience

**The Hospital**

North Shore Private Hospital is a 312-bed acute surgical and obstetric facility which performs most surgical specialties including cardiothoracic, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, advanced general and colorectal, urology, spinal surgery, paediatrics and Robotic Surgery. **Requirements**:
