**Role**:
At Hallam Secondary College VET trainers may be either fully qualified teachers or employed as paraprofessionals. Both teachers and paraprofessional VET trainers are required to be registered as a teacher or hold a Permission to Teach registration issued by the Victorian Institute of Teaching.

Classroom teacher positions are classified within one classification level with two salary ranges. The primary focus of the classroom teacher is on the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes. The classroom teacher engages in critical reflection in order to improve knowledge and skills to better engage students and improve their learning.

The paraprofessional class enables the employment of people with professional expertise for fixed periods in circumstances where a registered teacher is not available. Paraprofessionals will provide professional expertise in particular areas of the curriculum. The paraprofessional class comprises two classification levels each with two salary ranges.

As the classroom teacher gains experience his or her contribution to the school program beyond the classroom increases.

All classroom teachers may be required to undertake other duties in addition to their rostered teaching duties provided the responsibility is appropriate to the salary range, qualifications, training and experience of the teacher.

The role of classroom teacher may include but is not limited to:

- Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students;
- Contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of a curriculum area or other curriculum program within the school;
- Undertaking other classroom teaching related and organisational duties as determined by the School Principal;
- Participating in activities such as parent/teacher meetings; staff meetings; camps and excursions;
- Undertaking other non-teaching supervisory duties (VET Trainers are required to provide or arrange supervision of students if they are given a break during extended VET blocked classes).

ASSESSMENT must be:

- Fair
- Flexible
- Valid
- Reliable

And ensure that evidence is sufficient, authentic and demonstrates current competency.

Trainers are required to demonstrate the following:

- Training and assessment competencies as determined by the National Quality Council or successors
- Relevant vocational competencies at least to the level being delivered or assessed
- Industry skills directly relevant to the training/assessment being undertaken
- Continue to develop their Vocational Education and Training knowledge and skills as well as their industry currency and trainer/assessor competence.

VET Trainers are required to annually submit:

- A current CV
- Skills/qualifications mapping to each UOC delivered or assessed
- Industry currency activity records
- Evidence of participation in assessment moderation and validation
- Evidence of updated training and assessment plans
- Records and samples of student as
