Fisheries Officer Narooma

This is a unique opportunity to join DPI Fisheries in an entry level Fisheries Officer role and be part of a team protecting the fisheries resources and aquatic habitat of NSW for current and future generations. We will provide you with all the on the job training you will need to undertake fisheries compliance activities.

**About the role**

You will be joining the Fisheries Compliance Unit within the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Fisheries. As a Fisheries Officer. Your primary purpose is to ensure all fishers are complying with fisheries rules, advising and educating where appropriate, and taking compliance actions where required to protect our fisheries and aquatic resources. **In this role you will**:

- Undertake compliance activities including surveillance and evidence collection
- Prepare evidence, offence reports, briefing notes and correspondence
- Present evidence in court
- Liaise with clients, members of the public and external stakeholders
- Assist with the development of operational plans
- Participate in patrols and larger operations often in remote areas on land and water
- Design and implement educational programs to increase knowledge and understanding of issues and legislation amongst commercial and recreational fishers
- Undertake routine maintenance work of equipment and materials

**About YOU - What You Need to Apply**
- Ability to build and manage effective stakeholder relationships.
- Knowledge of and interest in fisheries compliance.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Problem solving and prioritisation skills.
- A current driver's licence, and the ability to drive a manual and four wheel drive vehicle
- A current boat licence
- Colour vision
- Swimming ability (200m)
- HSC or equivalent

Desirable:

- Marine qualifications and/or compliance experience
