**Job description**:
We are currently looking to immediately fill an ASO8 Principal Policy Officer position for our state government client located in the Adelaide CBD for a 6-month duration.

The Principal Policy Officer provides a range of advice to develop priorities that support mineral resource development in SA and is responsible for assisting the preparation of high level, strategic advice into the development of legislation. A relevant tertiary qualification or significant experience in policy development and analysis is highly desirable for this position which may require out of hours work and travel.

Role responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Leading and coordinating the development of proposals on major, complex policy issues related to mineral resource development in SA
- Preparation of major policy papers, briefs, and recommendations for Executive and Ministerial consideration on complete policy issues.
- Lead research and analysis of ensure alignment to departmental and government directions, objectives, and initiatives.
- Identify and develop innovative solutions and advice to complex policy issues.
- Establish and maintain effective networks with key stakeholders across government.
- Superior written and oral communication, including the ability to explain complex concepts succinctly.
- Experience in shaping strategic thinking and providing strategic advice, including through the demonstrated use of high-level analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to rapidly assess the policy implications of proposals and suggest appropriate changes and negotiate these changes with a range of stakeholders.
- Significant policy development, implementation, evaluation and/or reform experience, with a high level of expertise in one or more significant areas of government policy.
- Demonstrated experience in building relationships with a track record of effective collaboration across diverse stakeholders at both executive and operational levels.
- Proven ability to work independently and within a team dealing with competing priorities to achieve critical objectives and deadlines.
- Proven ability to think analytically and learn new methodological research techniques
