**About the team**:
Paralegals are part of the Legal and Regulatory Affairs team, a small group of lawyers with legal expertise in international trade, regulatory investigations, and administrative law. In an ever-changing global environment, the Legal and Regulatory Affairs team is at the forefront of legal developments in international trade and proactively strives to identify innovative solutions to new challenges.

The commission has a collaborative investigations model where Legal and Regulatory Affairs lawyers works as part of commission-wide teams undertaking anti-dumping investigations. We provide client-focused specialist legal advice and support to the commission staff on complex matters related to trade remedies law and investigative practice. The Legal and Regulatory Affairs team also leads the commission’s engagement in merits review processes.

**The opportunity**

As a paralegal in the commission, you will provide legal research and administrative support to lawyers in the Legal and Regulatory Affairs team. You will take the initiative to identify practice-related improvements within the Legal and Regulatory Affairs team to enhance the commission’s outcomes. From time to time, you will also provide legal research and administrative support to the commission’s World Trade Organization (WTO) Disputes team, a small team of lawyers and investigators supporting the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s engagement in WTO settlement matters relating to anti-dumping and countervailing measures. Paralegals work under the direction/supervision of a Senior Legal Counsel and the Principal Legal Counsel in performing their role.

**What you will do**:
This role’s key duties include:

- Undertaking legal research and analysis in areas such as statutory interpretation, trade remedies law, evidentiary matters, and investigations practice/procedure.
- Monitoring developments in foreign jurisdictions and the jurisprudence of the World Trade Organization in relation to trade remedies and preparing case notes and bulletins to inform commission staff of new developments.
- Maintaining team databases, including the legal advice register and merits review database.
- Liaising with the Anti-Dumping Review Panel Secretariat in relation to merits review matters.
- Assisting with team and branch reporting.
- Identifying opportunities for continuous practice and operational improvement, aligned to the commission’s strategic direction.
- Actively contributing to a positive, productive, and collaborative team environment across the commission.
- Other duties as required from time to time to support the work and priorities of the Legal and Regulatory Affairs and World Trade Organization (WTO) Disputes teams and the commission.
