We are seeking a capable and motivated Work Health & Safety/ Return to work Manager to support the team at Parklea Correctional Centre.

Our Work Health & Safety/ Return to work Manager is to safeguard the company by ensuring that work health & safety and injury management practices are compliant with relevant legislation, safety management system policies and procedures, and associated standards that affect our business. This includes the applicable Acts and Regulations and Workers Compensation legislation.

**Some of the Work Health & Safety/ Return to work Manager responsibilities are to**:

- Drive a culture that is focused on incident prevention at the earliest possible detection stage and hazard reporting, assessment, and control
Identify areas of risk and develop and implement measures for their reduction and control
- Advocate for individuals involved in incidents to be treated fairly and with respect and according to the “Fair-Play” model.
- Promote an organisational culture where incidents and hazards are reported and where investigations involve line management to identify and correct the root causes.
- Require MTC delivery partners to demonstrate a commitment to delivering services in accordance with the State’s and MTC’s Health, Safety and Environment management systems
- Investigate incidents and Close Calls according to their actual or potential severity (consequence) classification using the defined investigation process to uncover the root cause(s).
- Facilitate the reporting and recording of all Incidents, Close Calls and Hazards into internal systems & client (OIMS) databases as required.
- Liaise with insurer and external stakeholders in the management of workers compensation claims
- Attend GP and rehab provider consultations
- Coordinate all return-to-work plans
- Effectively monitor site HSE records
- Report monthly on HSE performance as per area of responsibility
- Provide advice on the close out of Corrective Preventive Action Reports (CPAR's)
- Interrogate CPAR database for trends/common threads and areas requiring attention
- Ensure trauma counselling services are accessible to affected inmates, staff and visitors following all critical or serious incidents
- Develop and include Hazard ID and Risk Assessment (JSA/SWMS) into Work Execution Documents
- Implement and maintain MTC Health, Safety and Environment management systems, including all statutory obligations
- Convene and manage the PCC Health and Safety Committee and ensure that incidents, audits, and the minutes of the committee’s meetings are fed through to the senior management team as a standing agenda item of their monthly meetings
- Implement procedures that ensure all identified hazards or risks are reported and appropriately mitigated. These would include consultation between employees, Health and Safety Committee members and representatives from the senior management team, and outcomes promptly communicated to workers within the relevant work areas

**Skills & Experience**:
The following key experiences and skills are desirable in relation to this position and would including but not be limited to:

- Tertiary qualification in Workplace Health and Safety (or related field)
- Formal qualifications in Workers Compensation Accredited ICAM Lead Investigator or Advanced Investigation Course completion(Desirable)
- Proven experience in Work Health, Safety and Workers Compensation case management within a large organisation
- Expertise implementing health, safety, and return-to-work policies & procedures
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation, regulations, codes, and leading practice standards
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to analyse industry trends and stay up to date with emerging WHS technologies
- Ability to deliver WHS education programs to key stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
