**Position Information**:

- The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools. We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.

**About the Role**

Aboriginal Education Officers provide assistance to teachers, Aboriginal students and their families to support improved learning, welfare and well-being outcomes for Aboriginal students.

**Essential Requirements**
- Working with Children Check Clearance
- First Aid Certificate or willingness to undertake First Aid training
- Administration of Medications - training to be provided based on student needs.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education and Training policies.

**Selection Criteria**:

- Understanding of the needs of Aboriginal students.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of Aboriginal communities and cultures.
- Ability to interact with Aboriginal students and parents.
- Experience working as part of a team.
- Knowledge of the local Aboriginal community.

Eden Marine High School is a comprehensive rural secondary school with an enrolment of 570 students with 13% of students identifying as having an Aboriginal background. The school is located in the far south coast of NSW and marine education is an important feature of the school's curriculum and culture. A Support Unit comprised of four classes provides specialist support. The school offers a broad academic and vocational curriculum to cater for the diverse needs of students and is focused on ensuring all students develop the skills they need to be successful both now and in the future.

Students participate in a wide range of learning experiences that include a broad range of cultural, creative and performing arts, community and sporting programs. We have fostered strong partnerships with universities, local businesses and services, partner schools and community groups to support student learning and wellbeing. Students represent the school in a range of cultural, sporting activities and extra-curricula activities.

The school is committed to continually improving effective classroom practices. Explicit teaching informed by data and enhanced by the effective use of technology to support learning underpins our practice. Strengthening partnerships with community, parents and carers, innovative evidence-based teaching and wellbeing strategies, with a particular emphasis on inclusion and continuity of learning at key transition points, is a key focus.
