The **Mental Health & Wellbeing Locals** is community-led and integrated through a partnership between us at **Inspiro, Wellways, Eastern Health**, and **Oonah**.

The focus of the Locals is on **care and support** for people aged 26 years and over who are experiencing mental health concerns - including people with co-occurring alcohol and drug treatment and care needs and their family, carers, and supporters.

We have a unique opportunity for an experienced **Wellbeing Navigator Peer - Family Carer** **who will use their own lived/living experience as a family member or supporter** of someone with mental health and/or alcohol and other drug use to provide a safe, welcoming and compassionate environment for families to feel supported, listened to and understood.

The role is **ongoing, part time 0.6FTE, (3 days per week),** and based mainly at our Lilydale sites plus other sites as required (Yarra Junction and Belgrave).

**About the role**:
This role will work collaboratively and closely with other Wellbeing Navigator Peers within a multidisciplinary team to build positive rapport and trust, in a way that champions lived experience values and principles and fosters hope and empowerment. This role involves practical and emotional one on one support and delivery of peer support and peer led group programs that are welcoming, responsive and flexible for family, carers, supporters and kin.

Supported by the Senior Wellbeing Navigator Peer and Support and Connect Team Lead, you will work to inspire hope and confidence in families, carers and supporters to achieve improved health and wellbeing with a focus on strengths and resilience as a part of recovery.

As a peer navigator, you will guide people through an intentional journey of evidence-based care and support, assisting people to achieve wellbeing and optimal participation in the community.

**Position Responsibilities**:
**In the role you will**:

- Provide empathic and informed peer support, information and referrals to families, carers and supporters whose lives are impacted by MH and/or AOD, being mindful of the principles of purposeful disclosure.
- Encourage and facilitate referrals to internal and external services, family/carer/supporter support groups and education, where appropriate.
- Provide culturally safe support to participants, their families and carers, including support to identify and develop personal goals for recovery and identify other needs.
- Work collaboratively with families, carers, supporters and participants, to develop individual wellness plans reflecting participants’ aspirations, current support needs, and which contribute to their overall health and wellbeing using a person-centred approach.
- Raise concerns about potential risks for consideration and review.
- Facilitate referrals with and for families and carers supporting a no-wrong-door approach that recognises and resolves systemic and other barriers.
- Support to navigate services within the Locals, utilising a person-centred approach that empowers people to make informed decisions about their healthcare and wellbeing needs and preferences.
- Build peer relationships using the Intentional Peer Support model and your lived and living experience as a family member, carer, supporter or kin of people with mental health and or drug and alcohol use.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of contacts and other activities using MMEX
- Embody and embrace Lived Experience values and principles of recovery, strength, ability, and possibility to build connections with participants, colleagues, and service providers.

**About You**:

- Ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with a diverse range of people and stakeholders.
- Understanding of Consumer Perspective values and principles
- Understanding of the broader AOD system and the range of services offered within it.
- Demonstrated ability to use lived/living experience in a meaningful and purposeful way. A commitment to person centred practice and maximising the opportunities and support for families and carers of people with a mental illness or psychological distress, within their local communities.
- Ability to model positive behaviours, emotional maturity, positive coping skills and resilience.
- Self-awareness and openness to self-reflection and growth.
- Ability to effectively organise your time, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrates commitment to reconciliation.
- Work towards creating culturally aware and safe services for First Nations Community Members.
