About us

As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.

Purpose of the role

Executive Services provides senior liaison and support to the Office of the Minister for Police and Corrective Services and Minister for Fire and Emergency Services and Office of the Commissioner and/or Executives, QFES through the coordination and provision of high standard ministerial and executive documentation, within a high volume and dynamic environment, in a timely manner.

Reporting to the Director, Governance and Reporting, you will be responsible for leading and managing the correspondence team within the appropriate financial and human resources delegations, and overseeing the preparation, quality, accuracy and delivery of all formal departmental, ministerial and briefing documentation, and parliamentary services are delivered within tight timeframes. You will establish and maintain an effective network of senior officers who may be called upon to assist with providing advice on the content, and substance of formal documentation is prepared to a high standard and provided in a timely manner, in line with organisational and government priorities.

- Knowledge and/or experience or qualifications in governance or business management.
- Knowledge and understanding of Parliamentary and machinery of Government processes will be highly regarded.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

- Lead the delivery of accurate, high-level advice and information relating to reports, priorities and strategic initiatives to the Office of the Minister, Commissioner and/or Executives, ensuring all matters are responded to in an efficient, high-quality and timely manner.
- Provide advice and guidance to ensure appropriate policies and procedures are implemented in relation to the preparation and delivery of departmental and ministerial documentation.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with key internal officers and across government to promote best practice and assist with the facilitation of efficient and effective delivery of services.
- Resolve problems arising from the provision of any conflicting information and ensure consistency of all formal documentation with government policy and departmental objectives and priorities.
- Prepare and present training sessions for officers in relation to formal documentation procedures, information management systems, guidelines and requirements.
- Represent the department at internal and external meetings and forums relating to executive services functions to build awareness and negotiated agreed outcomes.
- Provide leadership to a diverse team and create a work environment that encourages and empowers individual staff to overcome challenges, develop skills and achieve results.
