The Office provides political, strategic and executive support directly to Senator the Hon Katy Gallagher.

As a political unit and administrative function that directly supports a Minister of the Australian Government, the Office has a leading role in the management and coordination of policy, communications and administration of the portfolio and works in conjunction with the apolitical Australian Public Service to deliver the Government’s agenda.

**DUTIES**

Provide media and communications support to support the Minister’s parliamentary and ministerial business.

Prepare and provide timely, high-quality written material, including media releases, media information packages, media articles and messages, as well as communications material required to support the Minister in parliament and in her portfolio duties.

Assist in planning and managing media conferences and media events.

Monitor news media, press conferences and social media platforms for visibility of breaking stories and themes, ensuring the Minister is appropriately briefed on emerging matters of public interest.

Support the minister’s press secretary and digital media adviser and collaborate with other advisers in the Minister’s office on the Minister’s public-facing priorities.

Perform other duties as required by the Minister.

**KEY SELECTION CRITERIA**
- Demonstrated experience providing media and communications support on a wide range of complex policy, public affairs, parliamentary and political matters gained in a political office, public service agency, newsroom or non-government organisation.
- Experience in the processes of planning, organising, and implementing communication strategies and media announcements for a minister, senior public servant, non-government, or private sector executive.
- Ability to manage and prioritise complex projects under tight deadlines, while exercising a high level of analytical and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise high-level judgement, professional integrity, discretion, and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Experience in rapidly absorbing complex material to develop clear and concise communications, announcements, speeches and social media materials (both graphic and video) for broad and diverse audiences.
- Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

**Employment conditions**:
The position is offered under the _Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984_and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of _Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-23_which include:

- A commencing salary between $69,045 and $85,250 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
- An additional Personal Staff Allowance of $26,644 will be paid in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work.
- An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance (Negative Vetting Level 2) and comply with the Ministerial Staff Code of Conduct.
