**About the Role**:
The Policy and Communications Manager is responsible for managing, providing and coordinating high level advice, communications and support to the Director and the Board of the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium (BGSH). The Policy and Communications Manager will coordinate and progress complex and politically sensitive matters and provide authoritative policy and program research, analysis and advice relating to the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium, and the statutory responsibilities of the Director as delegated by the Board.
This role is responsible for ensuring that policy and other advice to the Minister, Board, Chief Executive and Director, and other stakeholders is of the highest quality and aligned to the objectives of the Strategic Plan and BGSH Act (1978) and BGSH Regulations (2021). The Policy and Communications Manager works across all programme areas within BGSH, coordinating and leveraging cross programme expertise and technical advice to create integrated and quality evidence based BGSH and Board communications and policy. This role is also responsible for the institution's strategic communications and the management of the Media and Communications staff.
**Key Role Outcomes**
- High level briefings, correspondence, Cabinet submissions, Annual Reports and Parliamentary Briefing Notes are prepared, coordinated and quality assured to support the Director and Board's decision-making capacity and legislative and governance functions.
- Director and Board decision making is supported by robust research, analysis and review of information, and timely informed advice considering the political implications and alignment to the Board's strategic priorities.
- The communications of the BGSH Directorate are managed efficiently and effectively, including the coordination of related workflows and allocations, to ensure the performance supports the Director.
- Strategic risks associated with the business of the BGSH are identified and raised for executive attention and recommendations for mitigation are made based on thorough research and analysis of the issues.
- Strategic communication requirements for BGSH are managed and coordinated across all programme areas to ensure internal and external stakeholders are informed and opportunities to promote the BGSH are leveraged.
- Relationships with internal and external stakeholders are developed and managed through effective engagement, consultation, and negotiation to advance BGSH business objectives aligned to the BGSH Strategic Plan and to ensure timely delivery of solutions focussed information to the Director and Board.
- The Director's Office is engaged as needed in planning for events that involve the Director as a key speaker or participant and provides advice and support on protocol for event running order; the development of stakeholder guest lists; management of function information to dignitaries, Ministers and senior government officials; coordination and follow up of rsvps; logístical arrangements and associated administration. ASO6, $98,478 min - $104,165 max p.a.
