**The Role**
The APS 6 Navy Languages Other Than English (LOTE) Officer will be accountable under broad direction for leading the development of Navy’s foreign language and culture capability.

Working as part of the Navy Intelligence and Information Warfare (NI&IW) Branch, the Navy LOTE Officer is responsible for defining and managing Navy’s foreign language requirements, including interdependencies with cultural understanding, and evolving the capability to address contemporary and emergent Navy and Joint demands.

The Navy LOTE Officer also acts as the conduit through which Navy members can seek information on and nominate for language courses and testing, and manages nomination and post course administration for Navy members attending language courses.

The Navy LOTE Officer will work closely with the Joint LOTE Capability Cell to coordinate Joint LOTE requirements, resourcing and linguist management across the Services.

The NI&IW Branch is an exciting and cutting-edge workplace. The Branch focuses on the key inputs of people, policies and products to assist in realising its objectives. It is an exciting time to join the Branch as we strive to support next generation capabilities and new platforms out to 2030 and beyond.

The Branch structure consists of around 70 personnel within nine directorates, plus the Executive team and employs an integrated workforce; consisting of mostly Navy personnel, supported by a smaller number of APS and contractor personnel.

NI&IW Branch plans to co-locate the Navy LOTE Officer with the Joint LOTE Capability Cell at Australian Defence College, Weston Creek (TBC).
